Jack Johnson. 1878-1946. American boxing champion. Vintage sepia signed photograph, 3.75” x 6.75,” full-length boxing pose of Johnson as a young man, signed “To my pal Johnny Oebbecke. From Jack Johnson.” Signed circa 1915. An extremely desirable autograph in fine condition.

In Reno, Nevada, on July 4, 1910 Johnson defeated the “great white hope” James J. Jeffries, the heavyweight champion who had earlier turned him down, in the fifteenth round in front of 22,000 people. The fight earned Johnson $115,000, and silenced critics who had belittled his earlier win over Tommy Burns. His victory sparked race riots and many states banned the showing of films of Johnson's victories over white fighters

Robert Fitzsimmons Rare Signed Photograph 1905

Robert Fitzsimmons. 1863-1917. British boxing champion. Fitzsimmons began fighting professionally in Australia and New Zealand before going to the United States in 1890. He won the world's middleweight championship in 1891. In 1897 he defeated James J. Corbett at Carson City, Nevada, for the heavyweight crown but lost it in 1899 to James J. Jeffries at Coney Island, New York. He won the light heavyweight title in 1903 and held it for two years. Fitzsimmons retired from boxing at the age of 52.

Very scarce sepia, matte-finish photograph of Fitzsimmons in a full-length boxing pose, 4” x 4.75,” signed in ink “With best wishes – Robert Fitzsimmons – 1/12/05.” Some mounting traces on the back, otherwise in fine condition.
