Vintage signed photograph, 10" x 12," signed in pencil in the lower wide margin of the photographer's mount "To Ed Dillon - With best wishes - Sincerely, Dustin Farnum." Photo by White of New York.  Ed Dillon, 1879-1933, director and actor, appeared in 311 silent films from 1905 to 1932 and directed more than100 from 1913 to 1927. Farnum's brother William had himself become a big star in pictures, and the two of them signed contracts with the Fox Film Corporation. Although Dustin Farnum played a wide variety of roles, he tended toward Westerns and became one of the biggest stars of the genre. At the age of fifty-two, Farnum retired from films and, but for a few stage roles, lived quietly with his third wife, actress Winifred Kingston for three years, until his death in 1929 from kidney failure.
